Wireless Architectural Acoustics Measurement System

The ZX9920 Wireless Architectural Acoustics Measurement System is an integrated solution for field measurement and assessment of  acoustic performance.

The system combines wireless data acquisition units, standardized acoustic sources, Class 1 measurement instrumentation and dedicated architectural acoustics software. Wireless communication between measurement rooms reduces cable routing, improves test efficiency and simplifies multi-room measurements.

The ZX9920 supports two-channel and four-channel configurations for residential buildings, commercial properties, laboratories, educational facilities and acoustic consulting applications.

Core Advantages

Wireless Measurement Architecture

Wireless acquisition units allow measurement channels to be positioned in separate rooms without long signal cables.

This reduces installation time and improves measurement efficiency in occupied buildings and completed construction projects.

Two-Channel and Four-Channel Configurations

The system is available in flexible two-channel and four-channel versions.

Multiple wireless measurement units can be connected simultaneously for synchronized measurements at different positions.

Portable and Field-Ready

Compact instruments, wireless communication and battery-powered operation make the system suitable for field measurements.

The complete system can be transported between different rooms, buildings and project sites.

Integrated Measurement Workflow

The ZX9920 supports the complete architectural acoustics measurement process:

  • Source-room sound level measurement

  • Receiving-room sound level measurement

  • Background-noise correction

  • Reverberation-time correction

  • Frequency-band analysis

  • Single-number rating calculation

  • Automated report generation

Guided Software Operation

The dedicated measurement software provides guided workflows, standardized test procedures and automatic data processing.

New users can follow step-by-step instructions, while experienced consultants can access advanced measurement and reporting functions.

Measurement Methods

The system measures sound levels in the source room and receiving room and applies background-noise and reverberation corrections.

Supported applications include:

  • Room-to-room airborne sound insulation

  • Wall and partition performance

  • Floor and ceiling airborne sound insulation

  • Façade sound insulation

  • Door and window sound insulation

Typical reported quantities may include:

  • Apparent sound reduction index

  • Standardized level difference

  • Normalized level difference

  • Weighted sound insulation ratings

  • Spectrum adaptation terms

Impact Sound Insulation

The ZX9920 supports standardized floor impact testing using a tapping machine or optional rubber impact ball.

The measurement system records impact sound levels in the receiving room and applies the required corrections and rating calculations.

Typical applications include:

  • Floor-ceiling assembly testing

  • Residential floor impact assessment

  • Comparison of floor covering systems

  • Evaluation of resilient layers

  • Construction quality verification

Reverberation Time

Reverberation time can be measured using:

  • Interrupted-noise method

  • Integrated impulse-response method

  • MLS-based measurement mode, where permitted by the selected procedure

The software automatically calculates decay curves and reverberation-time results across the selected frequency range.

Advanced MLS Measurement Option

Efficient Measurement in Real-World Conditions

The optional MLS-based measurement mode uses digitally generated test signals and signal processing to obtain room impulse-response and sound decay information.

Compared with conventional methods, MLS measurement can provide several practical benefits:

  • Improved resistance to steady background noise

  • Faster room-acoustics measurements

  • Improved signal-to-noise ratio

  • Reduced source power requirements

  • Broader useful measurement range

  • Better repeatability in difficult test environments

MLS measurement is particularly useful for rapid reverberation-time measurements and low-level receiving-room conditions, where permitted by the selected standard and project procedure.
