ZX8778

Tapping Machine (Impact Source)

ZX8778 is a standardized impact noise excitation source for building acoustics, designed to generate controlled, repeatable “footstep-like” impacts for impact sound insulation testing of floors and stairs. In a typical workflow (as defined in widely used in ISO 16283-2 / ISO 10140), the tapping machine is placed at multiple positions in the source room while sound pressure levels are measured in the receiving room to produce comparable results and single-number ratings.

OverView

ZX8778 is a standardized impact noise source (tapping machine) for building acoustics. It generates controlled, repeatable mechanical impacts to simulate typical footstep impact noise. The purpose is to evaluate impact sound insulation of building elements—most commonly floors/ceilings and stairs—so test results can be compared across different rooms, buildings, and projects.

In an impact sound insulation test, the tapping machine is placed on the floor in the source room, and sound levels are measured in the receiving room. The procedure is repeated at multiple tapping-machine positions and multiple microphone positions. After applying standard corrections (such as background noise and room absorption), results are reported as frequency-band curves and/or single-number ratings used in building specifications and compliance reports.
