Type 1003

1/2'' Free-Field Microphone, Externally Polarized

Type 1003 is suitable for both low-frequency acoustic evaluation, high-level sound measurements, and ANSI noise measurement over a frequency range of 3.15 Hz to 40 kHz.  Being externally polarized, Type 1003 is compatible with both TEDS enabled and classical preamplifiers.

  • Dyn. range : 20 – 162 dB

  • Freq. range : 3.15 – 20000 Hz

  • Polarization : 200 V

  • Sensitivity : 14.1 mV/Pa

  • Standards : IEC 61094-4 WS2F

The ZXONIC Type 1003 is a high-performance 1/2" externally polarized free-field measurement microphone designed for precision acoustic measurements over a wide frequency range from 3.15 Hz to 20 kHz. With a wide dynamic range of 20 to 162 dB, Type 1003 is suitable for both low-frequency acoustic evaluation and high-level sound measurements.

As an externally polarized microphone requiring 200 V polarization, Type 1003 provides excellent stability, high sound pressure capability, and reliable measurement performance. It is compatible with both TEDS-enabled and classical measurement preamplifier systems, making it suitable for laboratory, field, and professional noise measurement applications.

The microphone is designed for ANSI noise measurement and general free-field acoustic testing where accurate response and long-term measurement stability are required.

Typical Use Cases

  • ANSI noise measurement

  • Environmental noise monitoring

  • Sound level meter calibration and testing

  • Laboratory acoustic measurements

  • High sound pressure level measurement

  • Product noise testing

  • Industrial and occupational noise evaluation

Key Features

  • 1/2" externally polarized free-field measurement microphone

  • Frequency range from 3.15 Hz to 20 kHz

  • Wide dynamic range: 20 to 162 dB

  • Compatible with TEDS-enabled and classical preamplifiers

  • Suitable for precision sound level, environmental noise, and acoustic testing applications

  • Designed for professional free-field acoustic measurements

Use of Free-Field Microphones

A free-field microphone is designed to measure sound as it travels through open space, before reflections from walls, floors, ceilings, or other surfaces significantly affect the sound field. It is typically used when the sound source is located in front of the microphone and the goal is to capture the sound pressure level as it would exist in an unobstructed acoustic environment.

Quality and Stability

The stainless-steel diaphragm is laser-welded for enhanced mechanical stability and environmental resilience.

Each ZXONIC microphone is assembled in a cleanroom environment, ensuring low self-noise, excellent thermal stability, and resistance to environmental stressors such as humidity and temperature extremes.

POLARIZATION VOLTAGE

Type 1003 requires an external polarization voltage and is compatible with both TEDS enabled and classical preamplifiers. Externally polarized microphones may be used at higher temperatures without severe changes in sensitivity.

Type 1003 is available in TEDS combinations with the ZXONIC Microphone Preamplifier Type 14600E.

Type 1004 TEDS Microphone Set

Type 1003 is also manufatured with TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) configurations, paired with compatible preamplifiers. The microphone and preamplifier are sealed together to form a single, integrated unit. Each TEDS unit contains a preloaded digital ID and sensitivity calibration, allowing for automatic sensor recognition and error-free setup with compatible DAQ systems.

Default TEDS template is to IEEE P1451.4 V1.0 Template.
